Hairdressing as a lifelong journey

Hello, my name is Honza Zyla and I am a hairdresser. My journey began when I was fifteen, when I started studying hairdressing at the vocational school on Karlinske namesti in Prague. At the same time, after school, I worked for free sweeping hair in one of Prague's most prestigious salons near Old Town Square. It was there that I had the good fortune to learn from British hairdressers James Fillery (European Ambassador Schwarzkopf Professional) and Martin Coxe (World Ambassador Vidal Sassoon). That was when I realised that being a hairdresser is not just a craft, but a lifelong journey.

Later, I became a member of the Schwarzkopf Professional education team. Thanks to that, I was able to continue learning the most modern cutting and colouring techniques under leading European hairdressers at seminars from London to Budapest.

In more than eighteen years in the profession, I have had the opportunity to prepare models for prestigious hairdressing competitions including the Hairdresser Awards, work on styling beauty pageant finalists, and collaborate for more than ten years with the ELITE MODEL agency. Part of my work also included training hairdressers across the Czech Republic and Slovakia.Besides that, every day I did what I enjoy most about this profession - working behind the chair with my clients, listening to what they wanted and helping them feel good.

The desire to do things my own way led me, at the age of twenty-four, to open my own salon. When my first salon gradually filled up thanks to the trust of my clients, it was time to take the next step and open a larger salon in the centre of Ricany. For me, it was confirmation that honest work, continuous education and a personal approach make sense.

Life is not only about work. Over the years, my wife and I fell in love with Pisek so much that we moved here with our children. I am opening a new salon here and I am looking forward to making use of the experience I have gained over the years in the profession.

I believe a good hairstyle is not just about fashion trends. It should suit the person, highlight their personality and, above all, help them feel great and confident. That is why I keep learning, following new trends and looking for ways to do my work just a little better. Hairdressing is a journey for me that never ends.
